About the founder
Ezra Bookstein was introduced to filmmaking while studying sculpture at the University of Oregon, (B.A.´95) He found a direct similarity between these usually distinct mediums- leading the viewer´s eye through the lines and curves of a sculpture is very much like what you reveal and how you reveal it in telling a story visually. He decided to pursue both.
After moving to NYC he began working as a cameraman for the landmark PBS series, "City Arts", "EGG: The Arts Show" and "City Life", (some of the first broadcast programs to be filmed professionally on miniDV,) winning an EMMY award (1999) for outstanding documentary camera. Over the last 8 years Bookstein has worked as a Director of Photography for cable series and broadcast documentaries. The PBS film, "Big Town Groove" earned him another EMMY nomination and the film "The Latin Legends of Comedy" was acquired by 20th Century Fox, to name just a few. As DP he has worked on hundreds of stories, profiles and segments.
Bookstein founded Telling Image Films in 2005, opening a studio and edit suite in NYC´s garment district. As a creator, producer and director, Telling Image Films filmed a 21 episode sit-com for the Asian American Network (AZN), and has other films and series in various stages of production.
"The Rich Have Their Own Photographers" is Bookstein´s first feature film.
